Ugandan Footballer David Owori Murdered in Kampala

David Owori, a 27-year-old footballer and captain of Sports Club (SC) Villa, was murdered on a street in Kampala, Uganda, after resisting an attempted robbery. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Owori was attacked by a group of assailants who struck him with paving stones.

He was targeted just outside his home in the Makindye suburb. Following the assault, he was rushed to a medical clinic and later transferred to a private facility, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed the details of the attack and expressed the loss felt by the club, stating, “We have lost more than a player – we have lost a leader, brother and friend.” The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) described Owori as “a true leader on and off the pitch.” His murder has led to an outpouring of grief and demands for justice from the football community and politicians, with Parliament observing a minute’s silence in his honor.
