Africa Safer Gambling Week Launches in September 2026

The African iGaming Alliance (AiA) is set to host the inaugural Africa Safer Gambling Week from September 7 to 11, 2026, in collaboration with gambling regulators, industry associations, and other stakeholders across Africa. This initiative, under the campaign #PlaySafeAfrica, aims to promote safer gambling, strengthen player protection, and raise public awareness in African gambling markets.

Supported by the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority, led by Mr Bashir Are, the initiative responds to the evolving gambling landscape driven by digital connectivity and online gaming. The week will feature a coordinated program including regulatory engagement, public education, community outreach, and digital awareness activities.

Each day will focus on different aspects of safer gambling, such as responsible gambling practices and preventing underage gambling. Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, CEO of AiA, emphasized the need for consumer protection to match industry growth.

Olabimpe Akingba, a board member of AiA, described the initiative as a commitment to cross-border collaboration on player protection.
