Nigeria Advances Intelligent Power Systems for Energy Access

Nigeria is at the forefront of developing intelligent power systems as part of its renewable energy strategy. The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) participated in a conference where stakeholders, including Chukwuemeka Nwangel of Ubuntu Energy and Abba Aliyu, discussed the urgent need for innovative energy solutions.

The focus is on decentralized, data-driven networks that can enhance energy access without relying solely on traditional grid systems. The REA's initiatives include the Nigeria Electrification Project and educational programs aimed at expanding renewable energy access.

Merci Masanga presented ongoing projects that capture surplus solar power for local use, while Anita Otubu emphasized the importance of pilot projects to demonstrate scalable models. Chijiok Okonkwo from the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission is working on policies to support this decentralized approach.

The conference highlighted the need for investment in local engineering and manufacturing to create sustainable energy solutions tailored to Nigeria's unique challenges.
