Nigeria's Cocoa Leads Africa's Agricultural Exports in 2026

In the first quarter of 2026, Nigeria's cocoa industry emerged as Africa's leading agricultural export, generating ₦596.9 billion in revenue, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. This figure positions cocoa as the most valuable agricultural export commodity across the continent during this period.

Tanzania followed with strong performance in cashew exports, generating approximately $560 million, highlighting the country's growing role in the global nut supply chain despite limited local processing capabilities. Ethiopia secured third place with coffee exports generating $351 million, reaffirming its status as Africa's leading coffee producer.

Zimbabwe's tobacco sector ranked fourth, generating between $380 million and $400 million, maintaining its position as Africa's largest exporter of flue-cured tobacco. Kenya's tea exports were valued at approximately $320 million, while Tunisia's olive oil exports generated around $637 million, supported by record harvests and robust shipments to Europe and Asia.
