El-Rufai in ICPC Custody Over Corruption Allegations

Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, was taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) after spending two nights with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His detention follows allegations of financial misconduct, including fraud and misappropriation of state funds amounting to ₦423 billion.

El-Rufai was initially invited for questioning regarding these allegations and was later arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon his return to Nigeria. He has been accused of unlawfully wiretapping the phone line of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, which has led to three counts of cybercrime charges filed against him in the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The ICPC confirmed his custody in a statement, linking it to ongoing investigations into corrupt practices. El-Rufai has denied the allegations, claiming that the accusations are politically motivated.
