ICPC Arrests Ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in their custody following his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The ICPC issued a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, indicating that El-Rufai's detention is connected to an ongoing investigation, although specific details of the probe were not disclosed.

El-Rufai voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters on Monday for questioning before being taken into custody by the ICPC. He served as the Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, previously holding senior government roles, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007.
