Ethiopians Sweep 2026 Okpekpe International 10km Race

The 2026 Okpekpe International 10km Road Race held in Okpekpe, Edo State, saw Ethiopian runners excel, with Lema Alemu Mamo winning the men's category in a time of 29 minutes 37 seconds, earning a top prize of $15,000. His compatriot, Arag Getehn, finished second with a time of 29 minutes 39 seconds, receiving $8,000, while Kenya's Maxon Kipngetich placed third at 29 minutes 58 seconds, earning $5,000.

In the women's category, Silnat Pitw of Ethiopia won with a time of 34 minutes 18 seconds, followed by Mahait Kasahwu at 34 minutes 19 seconds and Kenya's Fridah Ndinda at 34 minutes 50 seconds. Each received $8,000 and $5,000 respectively for their placements.

In the Nigerian category, Raymond Iliya Gyang retained his title with a time of 30 minutes 29 seconds, while Boyi Jame and Sundai Rotshak placed second and third. The prize money for the Nigerian category was increased by Peter Dunia, Managing Director of Ocean Wave Limited, from N1 million to N2 million for the top three positions.

Former Edo State Governor Adam Aliyu Oshiomhole participated in the VIP category.
