Gunmen Strike Again at Olabisi Onabanjo University Hostels

On Friday, gunmen attacked hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ibogun Campus, Ogun State, between 1 AM and 3 AM, marking the second such incident in less than two weeks. Seven armed hoodlums reportedly invaded the student accommodation, shooting sporadically and robbing at least 15 students of valuables, including several mobile phones and a Lexus ES 350 belonging to the president of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association at OOU, Oluwafemi Aderupatan, who confirmed the incident.

Aderupatan expressed concern over the ongoing security breaches affecting the peace of students and criticized the lack of a strong security presence in the area. He noted that a police post and robust security measures had been promised by school management and community leaders following a similar attack two weeks prior, but these had not materialized.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that an investigation is underway and emphasized that the command is taking security concerns seriously.
