AGF Fagbemi Advocates Community Justice in Sokoto

During the Nigerian Bar Association's Law Week in Sokoto, Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, called for a stronger community-based justice system to tackle Nigeria's security crisis, which often stems from unresolved local disputes. He highlighted that conflicts frequently evolve from simple issues such as land and family matters, stressing the importance of prompt and fair resolution to prevent broader crises.

Fagbemi advocated for the decentralization of policing, noting that state police could enhance grassroots security by providing faster responses and better local intelligence. He also mentioned the federal government's ongoing efforts to enforce the rule of law, citing 386 convictions in 508 terrorism-related cases.

Rashida Muhammad, the earlier chairman of the NBA Sokoto branch, warned that insecurity erodes public confidence and threatens national cohesion. Sokoto State Governor Ahm Aliyu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the justice sector, revealing the appointment of 14 judicial officers and ongoing infrastructure projects to enhance court capabilities.
