AGF Promises Support for Nigeria Police Ahead of Elections

Dr. Shamseldeen Babatund Ogunjimi, the Attorney General of the Federation, expressed the Federal Government's commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in fulfilling its statutory mandate.

This statement was made during a courtesy visit by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu to Ogunjimi's office in Abuja. Ogunjimi highlighted the critical role of the police in addressing national security challenges, which require adequate support to enable the force to effectively discharge its responsibilities.

He assured the IGP that the upcoming off-season elections scheduled between June and August 2026 would necessitate substantial support from the Federal Government to ensure seamless police operations during the electoral process. Ogunjimi urged the IGP to continue engaging with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Economy to facilitate the release of outstanding funds for the police, noting that inadequate funding hinders critical security operations.

IGP Disu appealed for the prompt release of these funds to enable the police to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
