Ahead 2027 Poll: Will PDP Zone It’s Elective Offices?

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) met in Abuja to discuss the zoning of elective offices ahead of the 2027 elections. The party considered dividing the country into North and South zones for the presidential ticket, with the North producing the National Chairman and the South the presidential candidate.

However, there was a debate on whether to zone the presidential ticket to the South or open it to the North. Some stakeholders even suggested backing President Bola Tinubu from the ruling APC.

The NEC meeting aimed to ratify the zoning formula, approve the convention timetable, and impose discipline on erring members. Observers noted the influence of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on the party's reformist drive.

The meeting was crucial for the PDP's unity and relevance as a viable opposition party.
