AI Cybercrime Losses Surpass $893 Million in 2025

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) reported that AI-driven cybercrime losses exceeded $893 million in 2025. The report, part of the 2025 Internet Crime Report, revealed a global trend of cyber-enabled crime, with 22,364 complaints linked to AI-related activities.

The report noted that artificial intelligence is increasingly utilized by criminals to create highly convincing synthetic content, including fake social media profiles and voice recordings. The total loss from investment scams, which may not be directly identified as AI-driven, surpassed $8 billion.

The report warns that as AI tools become more accessible, cybercriminals are expected to refine their tactics, increasing risks for businesses and everyday internet users. The report also highlighted that AI is transforming cybercrime by lowering entry barriers for fraudsters, enabling large-scale, highly personalized attacks that are difficult to detect.

In certain regions, the threat from online scams and phishing attacks has surged by 3,000%, driven by sophisticated tools and wider internet access.
