Nigeria Ranks High in 2025 Cybercrime Complaints Report

The FBI released its 2025 Internet Crime Report, detailing the countries with the highest number of cybercrime complaints submitted to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The report indicates that nearly 1.6 billion dollars in financial losses were linked to cybercrime activities across 200 countries.

The total financial loss from cybercrime surged past 20 billion dollars, with investment scams being the largest contributor. The IC3 received nearly 3,000 complaints daily, reflecting a significant increase in internet usage and cyber-enabled criminal activities.

Nigeria was highlighted as a country with high cybercrime activity, ranking behind Russia, Ukraine, China, and the United States in the first-ever World Cybercrime Index report produced by the University of Oxford and the University of New South Wales. The report emphasizes the need for collaboration among international partners to combat the growing threat of cybercrime.
