Nigeria Among Top 20 Countries for Cybercrime Complaints

According to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) report released on Friday, Nigeria is ranked among the top 20 countries for cybercrime complaints, with a total of 1,219 complaints submitted in 2025. The report highlights a global trend in cyber-enabled crime, which has resulted in a staggering financial loss of $20.877 billion, a 26% increase from 2024.

Cyber-enabled fraud accounted for nearly 85% of this loss, with 452,868 complaints leading to a financial impact of approximately $17.697 billion. The IC3 received a total of 1,008,597 complaints from 200 countries in 2025.

The report also indicates that the average loss per victim is estimated at $20,699, with individuals aged 60 and above recording the highest losses at $7.7 billion. The IC3 serves as a central hub linking the public and law enforcement to address cybercrime issues and supports investigations through data analysis and collaboration with international partners.
