New AI Tools Enhance Civic Participation in Nigeria

FactCheckAfrica launched the Digital Democracy Suite during a press conference at Oroki Hub, aimed at strengthening civic participation in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative, led by Lukman Adeoti, consists of three products: KedereAI, GovQuest, and Power Deck.

KedereAI is an AI-powered accountability platform that allows citizens to track local government allocations, contracts, and infrastructure projects, currently monitoring N2.8 trillion in federal allocations across Nigeria's 774 local government areas. GovQuest is a gamified civic education tool targeting young Nigerians, designed to enhance understanding of governance and budget transparency.

The Power Deck comprises 24 civic flashcards to facilitate civic engagement in communities, especially for those without internet access. The initiative received support from the Nigeria Youth Future Fund and philanthropic partners, including the Ford Foundation and MacArthur Foundation, and aims to address the disconnect between citizens and democratic participation, especially in light of the recent Electoral Act.
