New Platform Launched to Track Rights Abuses in Nigeria

The Naija Civic Space platform was launched in Abuja to monitor and document human rights abuses and electoral violence in Nigeria. Bukola Idowu, the Executive Director of KDI, initiated this project to strengthen civic engagement and improve incident reporting.

Idowu stated that Nigeria can no longer ignore actions undermining democratic participation and that citizens' rights must be upheld. The platform aims to ensure that unresolved cases remain in public focus until justice is served.

Mathew Ayibakubo from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office described the initiative as an important tool for strengthening democratic participation and holding the government accountable for protecting citizens' rights. Concerns were raised regarding incidents of alleged intimidation and violence recorded during ongoing political party primaries, including the misuse of state institutions against party aspirants.
