Ikot Ekpen Council Celebrates 75 Years, Calls for Unity

Aniefiok Nkom, the chairman of Ikot Ekpen Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, urged for unity among residents to honor the legacy of the area's founders during a world press conference held on Friday. He emphasized that the council's 75th anniversary, marking its establishment in 1951, should not merely be a celebration of its birthday but a "rebirth" aimed at shaping the future for generations to come.

Nkom highlighted the significance of the diamond jubilee, which will feature a series of activities from April to December 2026, culminating in a grand finale. He announced plans for the coronation of the paramount ruler of Ikot Ekpen in August 2026 and the construction of a modern shopping mall to boost commerce.

Nkom called on the indigenous diaspora to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the area's development, while also urging traditional rulers to uphold their roles as custodians of culture.
