APC Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom Reject Consensus Arrangement

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikot Ekpen, Akwa Ibom State, convened on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming primaries for the state assembly seat. They issued a communiqué rejecting the consensus arrangement proposed by state governor Umo Eno, which they argued undermines democratic principles.

Ubong Amadu, the former APC assistant secretary and spokesperson for the group, stated that the consensus option violates the party's constitution and the Electoral Act of 2026. The stakeholders expressed concerns about an alleged plan to impose preferred candidates through an undemocratic process.

They emphasized the need for an open and credible direct primary to ensure that popular candidates emerge to represent the constituency. Additionally, the stakeholders reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and expressed overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Godswill Akpabio, citing their performance in office as a basis for continued leadership.
