Complaint Against Deputy Speaker Kalu Over NYSC Allegations

John Aikpokpo-Martins, a legal practitioner, has filed a complaint against Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu with the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC). The complaint alleges that Kalu engaged in conduct unbecoming of a legal practitioner by making false declarations on his Nigerian Law School registration form on April 23, 2010.

Specifically, it is claimed that Kalu did not engage in NYSC service during his law school program, which is a requirement under the NYSC Act. The complaint further alleges that Kalu's participation in the NYSC program while attending law school violated attendance requirements set by the Council of Legal Education.

Kalu was called to the bar on September 6, 2011, and enrolled on October 5, 2011. The LPDC is tasked with determining the validity of these allegations, which Kalu contends are unfounded and constitute an abuse of the regulatory process.
