LPDC Dismisses Petition Against Deputy Speaker Kalu

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has dismissed a petition filed against Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu concerning allegations of false declarations during his admission to the Nigerian Law School and his participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. The petition, submitted by lawyer John Aikpokpo Martin, claimed that Kalu provided misleading information regarding his eligibility during the admission process.

Martin urged the LPDC to investigate the allegations and impose appropriate sanctions if Kalu was found culpable. However, upon reviewing the petition and accompanying documents, the LPDC concluded that the complaint lacked merit and dismissed it, stating there were insufficient grounds to sustain the allegations against Kalu.

This decision reaffirms Kalu's qualifications as a member of the Nigerian legal profession. Kalu represents the Abia State constituency and was elected as Deputy Speaker of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
