NAF Confirms Borno Operation Amid Accidental Bombing

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed an operation in Borno State, which inadvertently resulted in an accidental bombing at a weekly market along the Borno-Yobe border. Reports indicate that at least 56 people were killed, with 14 others receiving treatment at a specialist hospital in Geidam, Yobe State.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the airstrike missed its intended target, which was a group of suspected insurgents believed to be visiting the market to collect levies from traders. The operation, conducted on a Friday, was part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts aimed at neutralizing insurgent hideouts and preventing further attacks.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodam, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, stated that the airstrike was executed based on credible intelligence and was intended to disrupt terrorist activities in the region. However, the NAF did not address the accidental bombing or claim responsibility for the incident.
