Nigerian Aviation Authority Dismisses Airfare Hike Claims, Expects Prices to Drop Post-January

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) dismissed claims of significant domestic airfare hikes during the festive season, attributing the price surge to market dynamics rather than excessive taxes. The Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, clarified that the spike in ticket prices is an annual trend linked to heightened passenger demand during the holiday period.

He refuted allegations of excessive taxes on airlines, particularly criticizing Air Peace's CEO for misleading statements about ticket prices. Achimugu emphasized that fare increases are limited to specific high-traffic routes and do not apply uniformly across the country.

The NCAA expects airfares to normalize post-festive rush, easing financial pressures on airlines.
