NCAA Blames Market Forces for December Flight Fare Surge

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has attributed the sharp increase in domestic airfares during the December festive period to market forces and high passenger demand, contrary to assumptions of excessive government taxes. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, dismissed claims of airlines overcharging due to taxes, highlighting that airlines often do not pay the full amount of taxes they claim.

The authority clarified that it does not regulate airfares but closely monitors industry practices. Air Peace's CEO, Allen Onyema, recently stated that Nigeria has some of the cheapest domestic flights.
