Airtel Becomes Second Largest Global Telco with 650M Subscribers

Airtel has announced a major milestone, becoming the world's second-largest telecommunications operator with a global subscriber base exceeding 650 million. This achievement reflects the company's extensive network capacity and its ability to deliver quality service across diverse markets.

In Nigeria, Airtel has significantly scaled its infrastructure, increasing its national site count to over 13,000, with nearly 17,200 sites, including 1,560 added in the last twelve months. This expansion aims to deepen capacity in high-demand corridors and extend high-speed coverage to previously underserved regions.

Additionally, Airtel is advancing plans for a second submarine cable internet breakout point in Kwa Ibo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of the 2Africa cable system rollout, which will provide faster and more resilient national connectivity.
