Ajayi Secures Third Place in Diamond League Final

Ajayi, a 21-year-old Nigerian sprinter who turned professional in 2023, made history by finishing third in the Diamond League final held in Brussels, clocking a time of 9.97 seconds. He finished behind Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon, who secured second place, and Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who won the race and the Diamond League trophy with a time of 9.90 seconds.

For his third-place finish, Ajayi received a cash prize of $10,000. This achievement marks his second podium finish in a major meeting during his debut season, following a similar third-place finish at the Commonwealth Games.

Despite entering the final as a wildcard invitee, Ajayi achieved his 16th career sub-10 seconds performance, competing against a field that included both the world and Commonwealth champions. Ajayi, who holds Nigeria's 100m record, plans to return to the United States after the season concludes to continue his studies and prepare for the 2027 season.
