Akada Children's Book Festival Celebrates Young Readers

The 8th edition of the Akada Children's Book Festival took place at Rugbi School in Eko Atlantic, Lagos, gathering 700 children, parents, educators, authors, and illustrators to celebrate literary excellence and promote African storytelling. The festival featured a wide range of literary and creative activities designed to inspire a love for reading and learning, including six book chats, two young author panels, five parent workshops, seven children's workshops, and various interactive sessions like scrabble and chess tournaments.

A major highlight was the presentation of the Children's Book of the Year award, with Pelumi Nubi emerging as the winner for the 2026 edition. The festival aimed to address the gap in children's access to culturally relevant books and foster a strong reading culture in Nigeria.

Renowned children's author Olubunmi Aboderin Talabi emphasized the need for greater parental involvement in children's literacy. The event also featured theatrical performances and puppet shows, showcasing the talents of emerging literary figures.
