Alic Ajisaf Foundation Celebrates World Book Day in Ekiti

The Alic Ajisaf Foundation marked World Book Day on a Thursday in Ijero Ekiti, Ekiti State, with an event aimed at promoting literacy and reviving a reading culture among children. The initiative attracted 150 students who participated in a week-long reading challenge, culminating in the Alic Ajisaf awards.

The foundation, established in 2022, focuses on encouraging voluntary reading and intellectual curiosity among young people, especially as digital consumption increasingly replaces traditional reading. The awards assessed participants based on the number of books read and comprehension, rather than academic performance.

Winners included Afolabi Inioluwa Oluwatosin from the senior secondary category with 13 books, Daramola Preciou Oluwanifemi leading the junior secondary group with 14 books, and Victor Godwin Akinwal Juliet winning in the junior elementary category with 11-12 books. Winners received plaques and cash prizes of N50,000, with all participants receiving books.

Aina Omotola emphasized the power of reading in shaping perspectives and expanding opportunities.
