Akada Children's Book Festival Set for May 2026 in Lagos

The Akada Children’s Book Festival, Nigeria's first and largest festival dedicated exclusively to children's literature, is set to hold its 8th edition on May 23, 2026, at Rugbi School, Lagos. The festival aims to promote literacy and foster a lifelong love of reading among young readers.

The theme for the 2026 festival is "Big Dreams, Brave Stories," which will emphasize the importance of courage, creativity, and self-belief, encouraging young readers to imagine possibilities and embrace their passions. Olubunmi Aboderin Talabi, the festival's organizer, noted the need to expose children to stories and books early on, helping them see literature as an accessible part of their lives.

The festival will feature a dynamic program, including author-led reading sessions, book exhibits, meet-and-greet opportunities with writers and illustrators, competitions, and various workshops. Notable stories showcased will include those related to the Nigerian Civil War, among others, celebrating excellence in children's literature.
