Akande to RMAFC: You Can’t Raise Politicians’ Salaries and Leave Civil Servants in Poverty

Laolu Akande, speaking on Inside Sources on Channels Television, criticized the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for proposing salary increases for politicians while leaving civil servants in poverty. Akande highlighted the warped wage structure in Nigeria's public service, attributing it to corruption and financial malfeasance.

He emphasized the unfairness and unsustainability of the current system, where politicians enjoy high pay while teachers, doctors, police officers, and other public workers are poorly compensated. Akande called for a comprehensive review of salaries across the board to address the disparity and curb corruption.

He pointed out the stark contrast between the meager salaries of lower-level civil servants and the extravagant running costs of federal legislators, questioning the logic behind such discrepancies. Akande argued that improving remuneration in the public service is essential to combat corruption and ensure a fair and just society.
