Akpabio Demands Evidence for Alleged Anti-North Comment

The Office of the President of the Senate, led by Godswill Akpabio, has demanded that those responsible for a social media publication claiming he made an anti-northern statement produce evidence or publicly retract their claim. The statement in question, allegedly stating, “We will make sure northerners suffer from January to May if Tinubu loses the election,” was described by Akpabio's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, as a fabrication intended to inflame ethnic sentiments before the 2027 general elections.

Eyiboh stated that Akpabio never made such comments and challenged the authors, particularly Ibrahim Umar Ammar from the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, to provide original recordings or credible evidence of the alleged statement. He emphasized that the lack of evidence should lead to a public apology from those responsible for the claim, which he deemed dangerous for Nigeria's political climate, as it could exacerbate regional and ethnic divisions.
