Akpabio Petitions DSS Over False Anti-North Statement

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) concerning a purported anti-northern statement falsely attributed to him and circulated on social media. The complaint was made public by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.

The petition, filed by Akpabio’s Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, called for an urgent investigation into what it termed a “manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive statement.” The statement allegedly claimed, “Northerners, You Will Be The Ones To Suffer The Most If You Allow Tinubu To Lose The Election.” Akpabio denied making this statement, noting that no credible evidence exists to support it. The petition identified individuals involved in disseminating the graphic, including Abdullai Musa and Uzoma Chilaka, while emphasizing that they should not be presumed guilty.

The petition underscores the political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
