Oshiomhole Demands Akpabio Resignation as Senate President

Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, has publicly called for Godswill Akpabio to resign from his position as Senate President. Oshiomhole's remarks were made during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, following recent amendments to the Senate's standing orders that create new qualifications for leadership positions.

According to Oshiomhole, the amendments raise questions about the fairness of qualifications needed to occupy top positions in the Senate. He argued that Akpabio has not served the required eight years in the Senate, as stipulated by the new rules, which demand that candidates for Senate President must have completed at least two uninterrupted terms.

Oshiomhole expressed concern that the changes were made to politically advantage certain individuals and limit competition ahead of the 2027 political season. The amendments have caused divisions among lawmakers, as they were approved earlier in the week.
