Oshiomhole Claims Akpabio Unqualified as Senate President

Adam Oshiomhole, representing Edo North in the Senate, declared that Godswill Akpabio is not qualified to hold the position of Senate President. Oshiomhole made these remarks during an appearance on Arise Television on Tuesday, addressing the controversy surrounding amendments to Senate rules regarding qualifications for the presidency of the Senate.

He supported the position of Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, who insisted that the current Senate standing orders do not support Akpabio's continuation as Senate President. Oshiomhole noted that Akpabio, who has served a term as a minister, does not meet the requirement of having served eight consecutive years in the Senate.

He warned that any attempt to bend parliamentary rules could weaken democratic institutions and lead to confusion within the Senate. Oshiomhole emphasized the importance of respecting constitutional principles and international parliamentary regulations rather than adjusting them to suit political interests.
