Akwa Ibom State Enhances Education with New Materials and Renovations

The Akwa Ibom State Government has distributed 406,450 teaching and learning materials and rehabilitated 199 primary and junior secondary schools across the state as part of a three-year intervention from 2023 to 2026 aimed at improving public basic education quality. Rt.

Hon. Anietie Etuk, Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB), announced these developments during a Ministerial Media Briefing on Education in Uyo. The distributed materials included textbooks, curriculum guides, desks, chairs, and other utility equipment.

The rehabilitation of the 199 schools involved constructing and renovating classroom blocks, administrative offices, perimeter fencing, water schemes, and modern toilet facilities. The board is adopting a “whole-school intervention model” to provide comprehensive support to selected schools.

Additionally, a new teacher recruitment policy will source teachers from local communities to reduce absenteeism and improve productivity. Capacity-building programs for teachers and School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) have also commenced to ensure proper maintenance of school facilities.
