Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Four for Suspected Drug Crimes

On September 5, 2026, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command conducted intelligence-led operations targeting criminal hideouts in Uyo and Essien Udim Local Government Areas. Following directives from Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare, the police arrested four suspects and recovered substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The first operation occurred along Aka-Etinan Road in Uyo, where 25-year-old Inemesit Ekpeyong was apprehended, and a search revealed a large quantity of the suspected drugs. In a separate operation, the Anti-Cultism Unit raided a hideout at Mnideim Nto Udo Village in Essien Udim, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects: Mandu John (female), Ubong John (male), and Ekemine John (male).

The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the suspects' activities, aiming to trace the sources of the drugs and identify any accomplices or broader criminal networks. The recovered substances will undergo forensic analysis, and those found culpable will face prosecution.
