Police Arrest Three for Transporting Indian Hemp in Osun

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 1330hrs, operatives from the Osun State Police Command's Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Team E arrested three suspects while on routine patrol along the Moro-Ife Road. They discovered a silver-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Bus, registration number BGT 81 OLG, which had broken down and was abandoned.

Upon investigation, the driver, Awo Omotayo, aged 38, arrived with a towing vehicle driven by Abayomi Suleiman, aged 22, accompanied by Oluwatayo Samuel. A search of the Sienna revealed bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects were arrested, and the vehicles were taken for investigation. Omotayo claimed he was hired by a man named Baba Ibo to transport the substance to Ogbomoso.

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation to identify the source and intended recipient of the drugs, with efforts ongoing to apprehend Baba Ibo and others involved.
