Akwa Ibom State Allocates ₦2bn for Agriculture and Roads

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate 486 rural roads across its 31 local government areas and has allocated ₦2 billion in grants to support crop and livestock value chains. This initiative is part of Governor Umo Eno's administration's ARISE Agenda aimed at boosting agriculture and environmental sustainability.

During a Ministerial Media Briefing, the Commissioners for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, and Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, provided updates on various agricultural initiatives.

The "Back to Farm" initiative has seen over 15,000 residents register for the Home Farm Scheme. The government has also established an equipment leasing company for farmers, distributed improved cassava varieties, and is enhancing rural access through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

Additionally, the Tree Crop Revolution Programme aims to distribute over 600,000 oil-palm seedlings, and the Ibom Model Farm has been developed as a training and agro-tourism center.
