Alaafin of Oyo Celebrates New Autonomous Passport Office

On Friday, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, commended the establishment of a passport office in Oyo, emphasizing its importance in decentralizing government services. This new office will reduce the need for long-distance travel to state capitals and alleviate overcrowding at regional centers.

The remarks were made during a visit by a delegation led by High Chief Asimiyu Atanda, a member of the Oyo Traditional Council, to celebrate the autonomy granted to the Oyo Passport Office, which previously operated under the Ibadan Passport Office. With this autonomy, the Oyo Passport Office will now be able to process international passports independently.

Oba Owoade stated that the office would improve access to biometric capture and documentation services for rural and semi-urban residents, saving them time and transport costs. Assistant Controller of Immigration Oladejo David acknowledged the Alaafin's support in achieving this milestone and urged local residents to utilize the Oyo Passport Office for faster service.
