Princes Drag Alaafin Oyo Oba to Court Over Status Dispute

Princes Ladigbolu Adegboyega Owoade, Tesleem Adeyemi Adesina Adeyemi, and Adebayo have filed a lawsuit against Alaafin Oyo Oba at the Oyo State High Court in Oyo Town. The princes seek declaratory and injunctive relief, aiming to prevent the monarch from acting in ways they deem unfit for his status as the paramount ruler.

The dispute stems from longstanding disagreements over hierarchy and authority within the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs. The tension escalated following the restructuring of traditional rulers' grades by the state government, leading to the creation of parallel structures and controversies over recognition.

Notably, Alaafin was absent from the inauguration of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs by Governor Seyi Makinde. The lawsuit seeks to restrain Alaafin from participating in council matters that could undermine his status as the paramount ruler.
