Albino Association Advocates for Skin Cancer Awareness

On the occasion of International Albinism Awareness Day 2026, members of the Anambra State Albino Association, under the leadership of Chairman Israel Orizu, are calling for collaboration to address the pressing issue of skin cancer among individuals with albinism. The association reported managing 16 active cases of skin cancer among its members, emphasizing the severe health challenges faced due to prolonged exposure to harmful ultraviolet radiation and limited access to preventive healthcare services.

Orizu expressed deep concern over the current situation, urging stakeholders to join efforts to ensure that no person with albinism is left vulnerable to skin cancer due to poverty and neglect. The association is advocating for the strengthening of policies and programs by the federal and Anambra state governments to protect the health and welfare of individuals with albinism, including the urgent enrollment of vulnerable patients in health insurance schemes.

They also seek support from corporate organizations and philanthropists to fund treatments and raise public awareness about skin cancer prevention.
