Police Warn of Imminent Terrorist Attacks in Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a nationwide security alert based on credible intelligence suggesting that terrorist groups are planning coordinated attacks on soft targets such as places of worship, schools, and NYSC orientation camps. The alert was communicated through a wireless message from the Force Department of Operations in Abuja, referenced CB: 0900/FDPS/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL38/68, and marked "Security General" with a "Treat as Very Important" tag.

The North-East, North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South-West have been identified as areas requiring heightened vigilance. Authorities expressed particular concern over the movement of armed groups from Katsina through Kaduna.

The alert warns that terrorists may exploit the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session to target schools, potentially leading to mass casualties. Additionally, there are concerns about possible attacks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Police commands have been directed to enhance intelligence-led surveillance, patrols, and collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders to improve information sharing and early-warning mechanisms.
