Police Warn of Terrorist Threats to Schools and Worship Centers

The Nigerian police have issued a security alert regarding planned terrorist attacks on worship centers, schools, and NYSC orientation camps. This warning was communicated through a wireless message from the Force Department of Operations in Abuja, marked as “Security General” and tagged “Treat as Very Important.” The intelligence indicates increased mobilization of terrorist elements, particularly in the North-East, North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South-West.

There is specific concern about the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State. Suspected operatives of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are reportedly conducting surveillance on potential targets.

The police are particularly worried about the return of students for the 2026/2027 academic session, fearing mass casualties. The alert also suggests that attacks may be aimed at destabilizing communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In response, police commands have been directed to enhance surveillance, patrols, and collaboration with other security agencies to address security gaps.
