Nigeria Heightens Security Alert Amid Terror Threats

On September 15, security agencies in Nigeria, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), heightened security alerts at schools, NYSC orientation camps, and places of worship due to intelligence suggesting possible coordinated terrorist attacks. The Nigeria Police Force issued a nationwide alert, instructing formations and commands to intensify intelligence-led operations, particularly around schools ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The alert indicated increased mobilization of terrorist elements, particularly movements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State. The police ordered commanders to strengthen security, enhance patrols, and tighten access control at critical locations.

The Defence Headquarters, represented by Major General Michael Onoja, confirmed monitoring of the situation. The NSCDC, through spokesman Babafemi Afolabi, reported an increase in intelligence-gathering efforts across state commands in response to the threat.
