ALGON Endorses Tinubu for 2027 Re-election Bid

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid for a second term in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This endorsement was part of a resolution reached during ALGON's 54th expanded national executive council meeting held in Abuja, attended by members from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The motion for endorsement was moved by former ALGON President Alabi Kolad and supported by Anani Hamisu Moham, the current chairman of Plateau State ALGON. The association believes that continuing Tinubu's administration will strengthen governance at the grassroots level and deepen democratic processes.

In a related decision, ALGON suspended three local government chairmen—Zakari Iliyasu from Niger State, Abubakar Danladi Abdullahi from Kwara State, and Abba Shehu Tambuw from Sokoto State—due to alleged misconduct, including impersonation and actions against the association's interests. The council emphasized that these officials are no longer authorized to act on behalf of ALGON.
