ALGON Endorses Tinubu for Second Term Ahead of 2027

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office as part of a resolution reached during its 54th expanded national executive council meeting held in Abuja. The meeting was chaired by ALGON National President Bello Lawal and attended by members from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The motion to endorse Tinubu was moved by former ALGON President Alabi Kolad and supported by Plateau State ALGON Chairman David Anani. The association reaffirmed its support for Tinubu's administration, citing the need to deepen grassroots governance and the administration's "Renewed Hope" agenda.

Additionally, the council suspended three local government chairmen for alleged misconduct, including Zakari Iliyasu from Agwara Local Government Area in Niger State, Abubakar Danladi Abdullahi from Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State, and Abba Shehu Tambuw from Tambuw Local Government Council in Sokoto State. The council warned against actions that could undermine its interests and pledged loyalty to its leadership.
