Slavko Vinčić, a 46-year-old Slovenian referee, has been appointed to officiate the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, marking him as the first Slovenian to take charge of a World Cup final match. This appointment was announced by FIFA's chief referee officer, Pierluigi Collina, who expressed the emotional significance of the role.

Vinčić described the moment as a fulfillment of a lifelong dream, expressing pride in representing Slovenia at such a prestigious event. He previously officiated two group stage matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, including Brazil vs.

Morocco and Algeria vs. Jordan.

Vinčić is no stranger to high-profile matches, having officiated the 2024 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley and the 2022 UEFA Europa League final. He will be supported by assistant referees Toma Klan and Andra Kova, with Adham Makhadmeh serving as the fourth official and Mohammad Al Kalaf as the reserve assistant referee.
