CRG Supports LPDC Verdict Clearing Deputy Speaker Kalu

The Central Response Group (CRG) welcomed the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) verdict that cleared Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezi Kalu, of allegations against him. The LPDC, referencing its rules from 1954 to 2026, found no prima facie case against Kalu, leading to the complete dismissal of the complaint.

Oband Georg, the spokesman for CRG, emphasized the ruling's affirmation of due process and the necessity for competent institutions to evaluate allegations without succumbing to public opinion or political pressure. The CRG criticized civil society organizations that called for Kalu to step aside, labeling these demands as premature and irresponsible.

They argued that such actions could undermine political progress and solidarity within the southeast region. The CRG urged Nigerians to respect institutional processes and the rule of law, asserting that the country's democracy would strengthen when due process is upheld and reputations are not casually destroyed.
