Uche Nnaji's Trial for Alleged Forgery Resumes September 21

Uche Nnaji, the former minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, is scheduled to return to the Federal High Court Abuja on September 21, 2026, for the continuation of his trial concerning alleged certificate forgery and corruption. Nnaji, who served from August 2023 to October 2025, is facing a six-count charge from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which includes allegations of forging a degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, an NYSC discharge certificate, abuse of office, and unlawfully collecting approximately N29.5 million in salaries.

He has pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik in the amount of N20 million, contingent upon a Grade Level 15 federal civil servant as surety and the submission of his travel documents. The Defence for Democracy has expressed concern over Nnaji's candidacy amid ongoing litigations, urging him to withdraw to avoid damaging his party's integrity as the 2027 elections approach.
