Colonel Aji Sues FG Over Alleged Illegal Detention

Colonel Dr. Moham Alhassan Ma Aji, an officer in the Nigerian Army, has initiated legal proceedings against the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He is contesting his continued detention since September 30, 2025, without being formally charged. The suit, filed under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009, seeks his immediate release and 500 million naira in compensation for alleged violations of his rights.

His attorney, Olalekan Ojo SAN, argues that holding him for six months without trial contravenes his constitutional rights to freedom and dignity. The court documents indicate that Colonel Ma Aji, along with others, was arrested and has been held at a military facility in Abuja, where he claims he has been denied access to family and legal counsel, as well as proper medical attention.

The suit requests the court to declare his detention unlawful and to order his release, or alternatively, to compel authorities to bring him before the court within seven days.
