Court Revokes Sowore's Bail, Issues Arrest Warrant

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja revoked the bail of Omoyele Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court. The court session was presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, who ordered Sowore to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.

The next adjourned date for the case is set for June 22, 2026. Sowore's bail had previously been granted based on self-recognition, but the Department of State Services (DSS) requested the revocation after Sowore's absence, which they described as a delay tactic.

The DSS has filed five counts of charges against Sowore related to social media posts that allegedly defamed President Bola Tinubu. Last month, the trial judge rejected Sowore's no-case submission, ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him.
